While you were sleeping

Upfront... brought to you by Maya Rudolph and Christina Applegate from Up All Night at the NBC upfront. (AP Photo/Evan Agostini).

Demi Lovato's salary not up to Britney standards "Demi Lovato is exactly 1/15th the celebrity Britney Spears is ... at least in the salary department. Sources tell TMZ, the 19-year-old singer's raking in just north of a million to join the gang on "X Factor" - still damn impressive, but face it ... she's no Britney. Simon Cowell raved about Demi, praising her accomplishments at such a young age ...  insisting she will connect with younger viewers. As we reported, Britney signed a record $15 million deal to work as a judge on the show -- so Demi's getting table scraps ... but in the TV biz, scraps can make you a millionaire. And just to show how desperately Demi wanted to appease her new "X Factor" overlords - we're told the former Disney star even structured her upcoming tour around the "X Factor" tapings."

Alan Rickman for CBGB movie Coming Soon: "Alan Rickman is set to star in Randall Miller's CBGB, Variety reports. He'll play Hilly Kristal who, for more than three decades, owned and operated the famous New York nightclub until a rent dispute forced the establishment to close in 2006. The real-life Kristal tragically died the following year. Rickman, who last appeared on the big screen in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2, previously worked with Miller in 2008's Bottle Shock. Miller will again direct with a script written by himself and Jody Savin. The current plan is to begin production next month."

Spawn Us: "Big Bang baby! Simon Helberg and his wife Jocelyn Towne welcomed daughter Adeline on May 8, Helberg's rep confirms to Us Weekly exclusively. This is the first child for The Big Bang Theory star and his actress/writer/director wife. "The family is thrilled," a source says. "Simon is excited to be a father - he's been doing his reading." Helberg, 31, met Towne in Los Angeles, Calif. and they married in 2007."

Pirates coming to TV Coming Soon: "NBC announced Monday the network has picked up the new action-adventure series "Crossbones," about the Golden Age of pirates. The series is from award-winning "Luther" creator Neil Cross, and film producers Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald (Gladiator, Men in Black, The Ring) ... from the announcement: "It’s 1715 on the Bahamian island of New Providence, the first functioning democracy in the Americas, where the diabolical pirate Edward Teach, aka Blackbeard, reigns over a rogue nation of thieves, outlaws and miscreant sailors. Part shantytown, part marauder’s paradise, this is a place like no other on earth – and a mounting threat to international commerce. To gain control of this fearsome society, Tom Lowe, a highly skilled undercover assassin, is sent to the pirates’ haven to take down the brilliant and charismatic Blackbeard. But the closer Lowe gets, the more he finds that his quest is not so simple. Lowe can’t help but admire the political ideals of Blackbeard, whose thirst for knowledge knows no bounds – and no law. But Lowe is not the only danger to Blackbeard’s rule. He is a man with many villainous rivals and one great weakness – a passionately driven woman whom he cannot deny."

Fry and Laurie together again Deadline: "Actor, comedian, raconteur and all around renaissance man Stephen Fry posted a tweet on his Twitter account earlier today teasing his followers with news that he and his once and future comedy partner Hugh Laurie are “cooking up a project together. We will be working again soon.” He apologized for having no other details, but said he would offer more when he can. Laurie is just coming off his epic run on Fox’s House ... They starred together in the sketch comedy show A Bit of Fry & Laurie, which ran from 1989 to 1995 at various time on BBC1 and BBC2."

Stargazing blog by Malene Arpe

  • Malene’s interests and hobbies include Schadenfreude, sci-fi and fantasy (good and bad alike), hilarious hair pieces, age-inappropriate celebrity crushes, messed-up starlets, waiting for the next Star Trek movie, hating Björk, creative profanity, disobedient robots, fake celebrity relationships, post-apocalyptic dread, singing super-villains, baseball, David Beckham (but only when he keeps his mouth shut), vampires and knitting tiny sweaters for her seven cats. That’s not true. Maybe.
