I'm no expert on religion, but isn't is a tad disrespectful to put your deity of choice on the back your leg? Lower leg at that. Shouldn't your imaginary forever-friend be somewhere close to your heart? Or at least on your arm? Or, at a minimum, on the front of your leg. "Christ on a calf" just doesn't seem right. Furthermore, aren't there rules about children getting tattoos? Via ONTD.

If not, then you'd better hurry, because it's happening today. At least according to serial Rapture-predictor Harold Camping. It's really inconvenient for me. It's my sweetie's birthday, so we have plans for tonight and tomorrow I'm having people over for dinner, so I should at least pretend to drag the vacuum around and perhaps do some shopping. On, the other hand, I'm probably not among the ones chosen to rapturate (rapturize? raptate?). If you think you may be one of the lucky ones chosen to get sucked up into heaven, leaving behind your pets and your non-believing relatives, it's recommended that you pack lightly. One pair of slippers, one white gown and a couple of light snacks in ziploc bags.
This from Slate: "The end is near, again, probably. So get ready, maybe. Harold Camping, the 90-year-old radio host who famously predicted the world would end last May on the 21st, has confirmed that he believes the world will now end Friday, "probably." After God failed to deliver on the appointed date last spring, Camping, facing mockery from the press and crushing disappointment and anger from his followers, quickly produced a revision to his predication, setting the new, for-real-this-time, date of Oct. 21. According to his revised explanation, the "spiritual rapture” did indeed occur on May 21, but the actual end-of-the-world rapture will occur Friday. Conveniently, the spiritual rapture passed virtually undetected to all but Camping. Camping, who suffered a stroke last June, has been absent from his Family Radio broadcasts while hospitalized. He left the hospital in early September and earlier this month posted a podcast, saying: "October 21, that's coming very shortly,
that looks like it will be, at this point, it will be the final end of everything." As the San Francisco Chronicle points out, Camping seemed to be hedging with this revised doomsday prediction: “The Oakland minister's latest prediction of the end of the world … is couched among words like 'probably' and 'maybe,' a far cry from the carved-in-stone certitude he projected onto his infamous May 21 forecast.” And, as the International Business Times notes, the end of the world will be very quiet. Quoting Camping: "[Non-believers will] quietly die…the true believers will quietly receive the new heaven and the new earth. I really am beginning to think as I restudied these matters that there’s going to be no big display of any kind."
I went to Walmart yesterday (don't judge) and all I got was a normal receipt and a close-up look at a fellow shopper who should definitely not have worn a pink tube-top. Or any tube-top for that matter. This devout couple, though, got so much more. And because I'm 100 per cent willing to let people believe whatever silliness they want to believe, I'm gonna go ahead and say, yes, it's totally Jesus and not Charles Manson. Via The Daily What.
I don't know about you, but I sure hate it when my religion stops being the "It" religion. It's just not exciting worshipping when all kinds of ordinary people fill the pews/mats/prayer circles/pentagram sheds. So I totally understand why Madonna may have gotten tired of Kaballah. It's so five years ago. The Daily Mail has this dispatch on Madonna's spiritual growth. Maybe Tom Hanks should investigate.
"FOR the past 15 years, she has been Kabbalah’s most high profile and dedicated follower. But now Madonna has apparently ditched the controversial faith and taken up with Opus Dei – the secretive Catholic sect made famous in The Da Vinci Code. The singer is said to be intrigued by the organisation and spent Friday with priests from the centre’s London HQ. The move follows her alleged falling out with some Kabbalah leaders after reports that cash raised for her Malawi charity was squandered. Last night a source claimed: “She has invested so much into Kabbalah so she was devastated by these damning accusations. “She has started exploring different religions. Madonna has always been intrigued by Opus Dei. As yet, she’s not a fully paid-up member – she’s just had informal chats.” It is not known yet whether the star, 51, has formally quit Kabbalah. Two weeks ago a report claimed Madonna’s charity, Raising Malawi, was meant to spend £2.4million to fund a new school in the country – but most of it was allegedly spent on the Kabbalah Centre’s offices in LA. Madonna has now removed directors of Raising Malawi. Among the axed board members is Michael Berg, a co-director of the Kabbalah Centre. Two other ditched board members, John Larkin and Rachel Almog, also had links to Kabbalah. There is no suggestion of any wrongdoing from any board members. Newsweek in the US said the FBI and Inland Revenue Service were investigating the charity but Madonna denies it. On Friday she spent 90 minutes at the Opus Dei centre in Orme Court before returning to her North West London home. Last night her spokesman declined to comment."
