Beastie Boys' Adam Yauch has died

Sad, sad news.

Rolling Stone has this: "Adam Yauch, one-third of the pioneering hip-hop group the Beastie Boys, has died at the age of 48, Rolling Stone has learned. Yauch, also known as MCA, had been in treatment for cancer since 2009. The rapper was diagnosed in 2009 after discovering a tumor in his salivary gland. Yauch sat out the Beastie Boys' induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in April, and his treatments delayed the release of the group's most recent album, Hot Sauce Committee, Pt. 2. The Beastie Boys had not performed live since the summer of 2009, and Yauch's illness prevented the group from appearing in music videos for Hot Sauce Committee, Pt. 2. Yauch co-founded the Beastie Boys with Mike "Mike D" Diamond and Adam "Ad-Rock" Horowitz in 1979. The band started off as a hardcore punk group, but soon began experimenting with hip-hop. The band broke big with their first proper album, Licensed to Ill, in 1986, and further albums Paul's Boutique, Check Your Head and Ill Communication cemented the band as a true superstar act. In addition to his career with the Beastie Boys, Yauch was heavily involved in the movement to free Tibet and co-organized the Tibetan Freedom Concerts of the late Nineties. In 2002, he launched the film production company Oscilloscope Laboratories."

Saddest story ever about an earless bunny accidentally stomped to death. Today

This is so sad and terrible you may not want to read about it at all. Especially not if you're fond of earless bunnies and tend to feel sympathy for camera operators who clearly didn't do it on purpose. As, a matter of fact, unless you're an awowed bunny-hater, don't read this.

MSNBC has this: "It can't be an easy job, being a cameraman. You've got to haul around and operate heavy equipment, get the shot you need all while staying out of the way of the action, and - who knew? - refrain from crushing to death the subject of that day's story. According to Der Spiegel, a zoo in eastern Germany invited a television camera crew to film a rare earless bunny they had named Til. It was the only earless one in a litter of six. The zoo wanted to use the film footage in a news conference planned for the next day, zoo director Uwe Dempewolf told the newsmagazine, because "rabbits without ears are pretty rare." Sadly, that news conference was never held, because "during the filming, the cameraman took a step back and trod on the bunny," Dempewolf told the newsmagazine. "He was immediately dead, he didn't suffer. It was a direct hit." The cameraman told the German newspaper Bild that the bunny was buried in hay, so he didn't realize he was stepping on it until it was too late. Needless to say, the other bunnies are fine. Der Spiegel reports that Til the bunny has been frozen and now may be stuffed."

R.I.P. Etta James

From TMZ: "Legendary R&B singer Etta James - famous for her hit songs "At Last" and "Something's Got a Hold on Me" - has died. The singer - who was diagnosed with leukemia in 2010 - has struggled with serious health problems for years. Etta also suffered from dementia and Hepatitis C. Etta died at a hospital in Riverside, California ... her manager confirmed. She won 6 Grammys in her lifetime and was also voted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Etta was 73."

Mariah Carey's husband Nick Cannon suffers 'mild' kidney failure

And Mariah wasted no time tweeting this picture and "please pray for Nick as he's fighting to recover from a mild kidney failure." I'm no doctor (no, really) so I don't know what "mild" kidney failure means. And this message doesn't really explain it either:

This is us in the hospital - role reversal; Last year it was me attached to the machines (after having dembabies) and Nick was there with me through it, and now here we are.

We're trying to be as festive as possible under the circumstances but please keep Nick in your thoughts because this is very painful. They tried to kick me out of the hospital but here I am pon de bed with Mr. C.

We're doing OK but we're "straaaaaanded in Aspen". #DramaticDivaPlace (I know, we could be in a lot worse places) but the truth is as long as we're together, we're OK. I'm not trying to make light out of the situation because it's a serious moment that's very tough on all of us so please keep us and our family in your prayers. LYM.
