Wickenheiser Spearheading International Hockey Festival

Hayley Wickenheiser’s leadership as captain of the Canadian Olympic women’s hockey team will be crucial to their bid for a third straight gold in Vancouver in February, but she’s probably an even bigger impact player off the ice.

She has helped to create the Wickenheiser International Women’s Hockey Festival to be held in Burnaby, B.C., from April 1-4 2010. It will host players from around the world pee wee to senior. womens teams.

The event will also feature top athletes from other sports, entertainment and some of the leading people in the fields of nutrition, equipment, training, education, skills, scouting and the game.

The goal is to raise the profile, knowledge and competition of the women's game. It’s a project that Wickenheiser has been working on for a long time.

The proceeds of the event, which is being presented by Samsung, will be split between two of her favourite charities, Right To Play and Kidsport.
