Mike Spracklen is a legendary figure in rowing circles, not only for his success in helping to produce Olympic champions but for being an exacting taskmaster and an intimidating presence.
Not so intimidating, though, that the athletes don't enjoy imitating the British-born coach.
Mississauga rower Rares Crisan offers up this video from the world championships in New Zealand of the Canadian women's team taking their best crack at a Mike Spracklen imitation -- his response to criticism from this blog that he was relying too much on the poor actors on the men's team for his video offerings to date.
Below that is another video with would-be Spracklens -- the Canadian men's eight before they went on to win Olympic gold in Beijing under their tough-minded coach.
Obviously, there's some method to this Spracklen madness.
