A dark end to a ridiculous tournament

Ricky Ponting’s Australia hoisted the World Cup for the third consecutive time by defeating Sri Lanka by 53 runs, using the complicated Duckworth-Lewis method.

That the tournament ended in chaos because of badlight following the start delayed by 3 ½ hours because of rain came as no surprise. This tournament was a joke from the start with high ticket prices, ridiculous accommodation and travel costs and of course the length of the competition - seven long weeks. The match ended in darkness and there must have been 20,000 flashlights going off as the batsmen wondered what the hell was going on. That’s how this tournament ended.

Australia vs. South Africa

This Australia versus South Africa semifinal was expected to be a classic. Instead, it turned out to be a walkover for Australia as it made its third straight World Cup final.

Australia can now make history by winning the World Cup three times in a row when it faces Sri Lanka in the final in Barbados on Saturday.
