Did the City of Toronto get a sense of humour???

The city's YouTube channel has published a cheeky clip from Toronto Waste, which asks residents to pony up their old electronics.

It's funny. Dare I say, I laughed out loud. And then sent a link to my friends. In fact, I may even send them some old electronics.

Why is it that people are forced to pay for waste/recycle bins, etc., and at every other financial outlay turn of waste disposal, and yet are expected to turn over used items of value for industry to profit from? If there were some type of financial incentive (say, a percentage of the profit) offered, I bet there would be a mountain of items forthcoming. This applies not just to waste managment, but to phone companies that ask for old phones to be turned in, and then turn them around either as refurbished or by harvesting valuable components for profit. Case in point, we're paying for the recycle program that allows old water bottles to be turned into items that we then purchase again. At what point does industry cut consumers a break? It certianly didn't happen with the hand-off of hazardous waste fees.

That's funny. When my company put a few computers and misc electronics on the curb, the City of Toronto bylaw enforcers issued us a warning, and were about to give us a ticket. Fortunately, an hour later, a guy who recycles electronics picked them up.

It would also be nice if the City workers would do their jobs and pick up the garbage and recycling consistently, instead of leaving random bags behind every week.

Its about saving the planet, as well as keeping old cell phones from reaching terrorist's hands to be used for detonation devices.
