Pantalone, past rivals hold competing fundraisers
Joe Pantalone, the left-wing standard bearer who came a distant third behind Mayor Rob Ford and George Smitherman in October's Toronto election, has reduced his campaign debt from $55,000 to a little over $30,000. He's looking for help getting to zero.
Pantalone sent out this email Tuesday:
Dear friends and supporters,
Happy New Year! I hope you had a great holidays and I wish you all the best for 2011.
Thanks to some hard work and amazing support, we've made great progress towards eliminating the campaign debt. On the day after the election we were faced with over $55,000. Today the number stands at just above $30,000.
One successful big event should be able to cover the remainder. Thus I am inviting you to the final event of the Joe Pantalone campaign.
The Debt Elimination Fundraiser will be at Gossip Restaurant at Exhibition Place on Tuesday, January 25th from 5:00 to 7:30.
It will be a fun evening with food, an open bar, and friends and supporters from across the city.
Tickets are $250 (only $62.50 after the full 75% rebate!). To order, make a donation online or call 416-531-8224.
You can also mail cheques to 868 Ossington Ave, Toronto ON. M6G 3V1. Please make them out to the Joe Pantalone campaign.
Thank you again for all you help and support over the last months, and I look forward to seeing you on the 25th.
Pantalone has opted not to participate in a "Harmony" fundraising dinner being held three days later to help erase the campaign debts of Ford, Sarah Thomson and Rocco Rossi. Smitherman has finished with no red ink but is participating in the Harmony dinner as a goodwill gesture, especially for Thomson who dropped her candidacy to support him.
Here's the announcement for that much pricier bunfest:
