A Long Night at the Office

When the highlight of the night for the home team is the play of the backup goalie in a one-sided, 6-1 loss, it hasn't been a good night.

Curtis Joseph, however, did give the local fans something to cheer about in the third period tonight with some dandy stops, including one with less than seven minutes left in the game on an Alexei Kovalev breakaway that had the ACC faithful chanting "Cujo, Cujo."

'Course, that chant wasn't nearly as loud as the trademark "Ole, Ole" chorus that erupted from the Montreal fans in attendance with four minutes to play of a scoreless third.

Joseph ended up with 11 saves and no goals allowed. Not bad for an old guy, and probably enough to get some nuts calling for him to play instead of Toskala Monday night.

The Habs look like they have a very good chance to be an excellent team this season, and that lethal power play on its own will again win games for the Montrealers. Alex Tanguay looks to be a seamless fit, and while Robert Lang is no Mats Sundin, he looked pretty good last night.

Tune in Monday night for the battle of the 18-year-old defenceman, the Leafs' Luke Schenn versus Alex Pietrangelo of the St. Louis Blues.

Monday afternoon, Damian. Details are supposed to be important to journalists.

Oh man, I took Tanguay in my pool and as much as I love the leafs, last night was awesome. He is going to get a ton of points on Montreal's number one pp unit!

For those Leaf fans that thought that this would be a decent team after beating Detroit ---- think again.
