So I know we don't always get along. But I could use your help.
See, I've got this ballot to fill out for the NHL trophies and all-star teams by Wednesday, and I'm a little uncertain in a few categories. So here's your chance to have your say and have input into my vote on three trophies in particular: the Hart (MVP), the Norris (best defenceman) and the Calder.
Here's what I'm thinking so far.
On the Hart, it sure looks like three Russians - Alex Ovechkin, Evgeny Malkin and Pavel Datsyuk - as the top three choices. After that, maybe Zach Parise of the Devils or Steve Mason of the Blue Jackets. The consensus seems to be that Ovechkin will win walking away, but I have this feeling in the back of my mind that Datsyuk is actually the better all-around player and more productive in fewer minutes. Looking past Mason and all he's done isn't easy, either.
On the Norris, it has to be a showdown between Zdeno Chara and Mike Green. I've been a Chara guy all along this season, but how do you ignore Green's special season in a league in which 30 goals for a defenceman just doesn't happen anymore? Or is there a worthy third candidate?
Finally, the Calder. Mason seems to be a shoo-in,particularly since we mentioned him in the Hart discussion. But there are a bunch of good forwards including Bobby Ryan, Kris Versteeg, Patrik Berglund and Blake Wheeler (plus 36!!) On defence, it would seem crazy to ignore Drew Doughty, who played almost 24 minutes a game for the Kings.
So here's your chance to influence me. Go for it.
