10 players to watch in the gold medal game

TEAM CANADA

RW Jordan Eberle: Canada's go-to sniper. Has scored several huge goals over past two years.

 Eberle

LW Taylor Hall: Probably the top pick in next summer's NHL draft. Loves to take it to the net.

Hall

LW Brandon McMillan: If Canada has problems on the back end, McMillan could be shifted back to play defence.

McMillan

D Ryan Ellis: Small but flashy blueliner quarterbacks Team Canada power play.

Ellis

C Nazem Kadri: Slick and fast, loves to get the big hit. Centre on top power play unit.

Kadri

TEAM U.S.A.

LW Jerry D'Amigo: Leafs draft pick has four goals in last two games, fourth in tournament scoring

Damigo

RW Danny Kristo: Blazing fast, gave Team Canada fits on New Year's Eve.

Kristo

RW Jordan Schroeder: One of highest scoring Americans ever to play in world tourney.

Schroeder

D John Carlson: Already playing minor pro, has booming shot from the blueline.

Carlson

LW Ryan Bourque: Son of legendary Boston defenceman, another U.S. forward with wheels.

On Kadri, did you mean give a big hit or get a big hit?

Excuse me, Damien - but what about Jake Allen? Big oversight!

Coxie, Ellis better recover from that brutal showing last time vs USA....or it could be a long night in SASK. Yanks have lots to prove and a full tank of gas - should be a fun game to watch.

I'm not happy to say it, but it looks like USA has the faster team

The Spin on Sports by Damien Cox

  • Damien Cox, the Star's hockey columnist and associate sports editor, takes turns stirring up trouble and chuckling at the foibles of the sporting world. He'll start with hockey, Canada's ongoing passion play, and stick his nose into a few other games and places where athletes reside.
