An unexpected thrill-ride
The multi-storey escalator at the multiplex Scotiabank Theatre at Richmond St. W. and John St. has been unofficially dubbed “The Escalator of Terror” by Chicago Sun-Times fillm critic Roger Ebert.
“The photo doesn’t do it justice. A vertiginous drop. Speed it up and it would be a ride at Disney World,” Ebert noted.
Ebert fan Karl Leschinsky --- who actually coined the term, Escalator of Terror – reported an incident in which French actress Marion Cotillard in high heels managed to survive the perilous ascent to the theatres after a technical problem caused a screening of Little White Lies to be hastily relocated to Scotiabank.
Regular movie-goers will confirm that It is indeed an unexpectedly, vertigo-inducing unnerving ride up or down.
