Minutes after I mention that John Carver is waiting for the team's latest target to sign, TFC sends out a news release announcing that they've signed 21-year-old American striker Johann Smith.
With four goals in five games with the U.S. under-20 national team, Smith might provide the solution to TFC's lack of scoring touch. But he's also a free agent who didn't stick with Bolton's reserve and has more teams (3) than goals (1) in the last two seasons. So he might just be a young journeyman in training.
TFC fans won't know until he lines up.
But at this point one thing is clear:
Smith can run.
Browser beware when it comes to Wikipedia, but Smith's bio there says he has covered 100 metres in 10.5 seconds.
If the number is too abstract for you, Mo Johnston makes it concrete in the press release: "He's got the pace of Marvell Wynne."
I guess he's fast.
-- Morgan Campbell

well, TFC's front line has gone from ragged and slow to pretty young and sleek in a hurry. good bye cunningham, hello barrett, ibby and smith and smith. with four decent young talents, here's hoping at least one develops into an elite MLS striker.

Johann Smith looked REALLY good against NY.
He is really fast, blew down the sideline against NY.
This guy is good.

Did not take long for Cunningham to score his 100th goal - I would rather doubt ones' coaching abilities rather that a hard fact ( 99 scored goals at that point ). He has certainly did not scored those goals while sitting on a bench. This sad sack team performance continued against shorthanded, but solid NY team. It is frustrating to see absence of a hint of a team play, they could not keep the ball even against undermanned opponent. Ricketts and Barret played well, Robinson can be a playmaker, Sutton should have came out on the first goal -- was he asleep? Johann Smith looked alive. Get someone in who can coach a team!

Oh, how the rumor mill might swirl.
So I am reading now on the TFC site that there are three things that might be happening:
1) Someone else out
2) Someone new in
3) Taking that sweet money from Mo's move to Glasgow and possibly getting some grass on the BMO Field surface.
So I understand the first two are likely, but the last? Could it be? Could you help me understand Morgan? To me, a grass field would be better than almost any player acquisitions at this point, as it would set us up very well for the future and eliminate the "I don't want to play on turf" problem. I would really like to know if this is the real deal or not.
