Or - providing Beckham doesn't get injured - perhaps the MLS does benefit from this as much as the player himself. If Beckham plays well in Serie A and re-establishes himself as a starter in the England squad, it puts an end to the suggestions that he's washed-up and his career is over. This would help the MLS to shed the notion that it is a graveyard of over-paid past-it stars, South American strugglers and home-growns who aren't good enough to ply their trade in the top leagues and gains some credibility and respectability.

This is positive for everyone. For Beckham, the article explains it well; For Milan, they have another champion and will sell thousands and thousands of jerseys; For the MLS it's spreading their brand all over the world. Look at all the discussion about it already... Millions of people who never give a thought to the MLS are now thinking about it; just having the league in the global football consciousness I'd say it worth the whole effort many times over. If Beckham does well with Milan and England it can do nothing but postitive things for everyone.
