CONQUEST CONQUERED
In a move that certainly will wreak havoc on many travellers' plans, Conquest Vacations today announced it has ceased business.
TheStar.com has the full story, but suffice to say the pain from this will be felt in many locations; from living rooms and board rooms to Pearson Airport and in publications who rely on Conquest advertising. Mostly, of course, you feel for the folks who've worked at a company that says it's been able to fight off gathering storms for 37 years.
The company has offices in Toronto and Vancouver and says it flew more than a million passengers last year to such destinations as the Caribbean, Mexico, Cuba, Mexico and Florida.
There have been obvious signs of pain in the travel industry, with cutbacks in Canada and around the globe. But nothing as significant as this.
Even if people get their money back from vacations they've booked, the move undoubtedly has caused hardship for folks currently on Conquest vacations or who had planned on them and now have to scramble for alternate arrangements.
But, mostly, you feel for loyal employees at what has to be a terrible time.
