It seems cougars love Whistler, British Columbia.
Not the mountainous cats, although they most likely do, but the women who travel around the world looking for younger men, called "cubs." Or so they tell me. At my age, north of 50 a bit, I'm not quite in their targets, so to speak. If I was to be a "cub," the woman likely would have to be in her 70s. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
But I digress. According to a survey from CougarLife.com, a dating site "designed for Cougars and the Cubs who love them," the top ten Cougar Resorts in North America are The Resort at Pelican Hill in California, the One and Only Palmilla Resort in Mexico, the Westin Riverfront Beavercreek Resort in Colorado, The Fairmont Chateau Whistler (see interior photo at right), Kiawah Island Resort in South Carolina, Canyon Ranch in Tucson, Arizona, The J.W. Marriott in Palm Springs, California, the Amangani Resort in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Stowe Mountain Lodge in Vermont and the Marco Island Marriott Beach Resort, Golf Club and Spa (how's that for a title) in Florida.
Sorry, I realize it's juvenile and all that, but I have to single out the fact that cougars appear to love Jackson Hole and Beavercreek.
The survey (3,533 respondents, in case you were wondering) also had some other interesting findings. Some 79.4 per cent of cougars treat themselves to vacations twice a year, and 76.3 per cent of them plan on securing a "hook-up" while they're away. The survey found that 63.9 per cent will pounce on hotel/activity staff members and a rather surprising 24.1 per cent said they spice things up by inviting a third person to the mix.
You might think this sort of thing isn't a big deal, but cougarlife.com says it has 450,000 members in Canada.
Isn't that great information for a Wednesday morning?
AIR CANADA SEAT SALE
Air Canada launched something of a sale today. It's not amazing by any stretch of the imagination, but there are some reasonable fares, including $1.049 round-trip Toronto to London and $1,282 Toronto round-trip to Hong Kong. For U.S. flights, it's $201 one-way to Boston (see photo) and $172 one-way Toronto to New York LaGuardia and a sizeable $355 one-way YYZ to San Francisco.
Looking for a sun holiday in the fall? You can get a one-way ticket from Toronto to Nassau for $201 and from Toronto to Barbados for $292.
Staying in Canada? A ticket from Toronto to Vancouver will cost $287 one-way, while a seat on a flight to St. John's will set you back $265 one-way.
You need to book by the end of the day (Eastern Time) on July 22 and there are date restrictions, of course.
PORTER AND ICELANDAIR JOIN HANDSIcelandair and Porter Airlines have signed an interline agreement that will benefit passengers connecting between North America and more than 20 Icelandair destinations throughout Europe.
Effective immediately, passengers can book a single combined e-ticket for Porter Airlines and Icelandair flights, including the convenience of checking baggage through to the final destination. Connections from more than 10 Canadian gateways are now available between airlines in Halifax, Boston, Washington-Dulles and New York-Newark.
“Canada is a growing market for Icelandair with many exciting opportunities on the horizon. The agreement with Porter Airlines will allow us to offer our passengers even more connections and flexibility throughout Canada,” said Thorsteinn Egilsson, Icelandair General Manager – The Americas.
Earlier this year, Icelandair expanded its seasonal service from Toronto-Pearson to a year-round operation with plans to increase capacity next summer. Icelandair also resumed seasonal service from Halifax with up to three flights a week.
“This is Porter’s first interline agreement providing access to Europe,” said Michael Deluce, executive vice president and chief commercial officer of Porter Airlines. “Icelandair has numerous gateways within our network that passengers can fly from.”
Icelandair, the flag carrier of Iceland since 1937, offers service to Iceland from Boston, New York-JFK, Seattle, Denver and Toronto with seasonal service from Newark, Washington, D.C., Minneapolis-St. Paul, Orlando Sanford, Halifax, and Anchorage. Connections through Icelandair’s hub at Keflavik International Airport are available to more than 20 destinations in Scandinavia, the U.K. and Continental Europe. Only Icelandair allows passengers to stopover in Iceland at no additional airfare.
I've never flown Icelandair but I hear good things. And I've generally enjoyed my experiences on Porter, especially the free beer on board and the cappucino and cookies at the Island Airport terminal!
