Artists for Haitian relief at the Metivier gallery
That's a rare circumstance, but the thing is, yesterday I received a note from the Metivier Gallery that they were holdign a fundraising raffle of work by gallery artists for Haitian earthquake relief. Tickets were $500, and only 100 were available. With five pieces to be won -- by Rains, Ed Burtynsky (above), John Hartman, Joanne Tod and Michael Smith -- that represented a major bargain for the winners; I guess collectors thought so, too, because tickets were gone an hour later, and a cool $50,000 was on its way to Doctors Without Borders, with the federal government matching the donation for an even $100,000. Kudos to them.
