Terra Cotta Warrriors pulled from Western Canadian tour
I just received notice that the Chinese government has rescinded its promise to allow the current Terra Cotta Warriors exhibition at the ROM to continue its tour into Western Canada. Its concern, the ROM says, is the preservation of the artifacts, meaning it will limit future international exhibitions to one year.
What that means is the Montreal Beaux Arts will get the show next year as planned, but the Glenbow in Calgary and the Royal BC in Victoria lose out. Given how long in advance such things are planned, it could leave them scrambling.

Couldn't everyone just have kept quiet and made concrete reproductions of them? No visitor is going to call BS on their authenticity in such a dimly lit room. Just my two cents
:D

But Alex, that would be LYING -- and the Chinese government has NEVER done that ....

It is very important to keep the artifacts in the best condition they can be in and if this means that museums must limit their time with the artifacts then so be it. I was fortunate enough to be able to see the Terra Cotta Army Warriors this summer at the ROM and it was spectacular. I hope for those interested they have the time and opportunity to visit.
