Did you know?
The Power Plant is closing down for renovations shortly, with plans for a new lobby, reception area and retail zone. They've hired -- no surprise -- Kuwabara Payne McKenna Blumberg, the high-profile Toronto architectural firm, one of whom's principles, Bruce Kuwabara, just happens to be married to Power Plant board member Victoria Jackman. Not that the firm needs such ins; they've been making major buildings here and all over the world for decades. The reno will come in at about $350,000, and with any luck will address the volume of clinical dead space that greets you as you pass through the main doors.
The gallery re-opens in March 12 with an exhibition by Thomas Hirschorn, which is now officially the thing I'm most looking forward to this spring. You should be too.
