Heavy rain, thunderstorms expected

The rainy start to this week won’t end on Tuesday or even Wednesday, according to Environment Canada.

There could be thunderstorms on top of up to 15 mm of rain in Toronto Tuesday. The heavy rain prompted Environment Canada to extend a special weather statement on Tuesday morning for much of Ontario.

The soggy weather is being caused by an intensifying low pressure system, which was over Missouri before it moved towards the Great Lakes on Monday night, according to Environment Canada.

Heavy rain early on Tuesday will ease off until the afternoon when there will be thunderstorms and more rain into the evening. Temperatures should hover between 13C and 11C.

More rain and thunderstorms are expected in Southern Ontario on Wednesday, bringing total rainfall between 20 and 40 mm across the province, according to Environment Canada.

Areas with thunderstorms are expected to get more rain.
