People tend to forget the fact that SUV's for the most part are just plain too big, require too many resources to produce and if their biggest claim to fame is their mileage numbers are similar to a family sized car, we are all in trouble. If "families" need space for their 2.2 children they should be looking for a hybrid family car that has mileage numbers comparable to a compact.
