Smitherman talks, Pantalone secures the left.

With George Smitherman's comments on his willingness to consider privatization of some city services (he did not quite "back" it as the headline suggests) I think we've seen all serious candidates now chime in on what I suppose is the first election issue.  Smitherman seems to have aimed for the middle, willing to consider it but warning that privatization is no panacea -good middle of the road stuff. Sarah Thomson is right there with him. Rocco Rossi and Giorgi Mammoliti appear stronger in their pro-privatization rhetoric.  And Joe Pantalone is the lone hard core opponent.

Smitherman's words were right, in my opinion.  Every option needs to considered. But it's Pantalone's lone position on the left which might be most interesting. If it practically comes down to two candidates at the end of the day, Pantalone is going to be one of them if he remains the only candidate to the left of centre. Well played Joe.
