3M design competition winners
I'm the kind of girl who gets giddy at the thought of shopping for stationary, pens and organizers.
And I relish finding unique, stylish options to suit my many desk-related needs.
So, it's no surprise that the 3M Canada design competition in collaboration with OCAD caught my attention.
Third-year students were asked to create new Scotch tape and Post-it Note Pop up dispensers (you can never have too many post-its!).
The entries, which were part of the course curriculum, also had to incorporate considerations such as cost requirements, the target market and an environmental component.
Matthew Pacione won for his Scotch tape dispenser, shown above, made using a starch-based biological plastic and finished with biodegradable paint.
Scott Currie took the prize for his Post-it dispenser, shown below, made with an aluminum top and a cork base.
The winners each received $3,000 cash and both their designs will be manufactured by 3M Canada, with launch expected in 2010.

That tape dispenser is incredible looking! I would totally buy one of those if they started mass producing them.
