How are you using the Home Renovation Tax Credit?
The February 1 deadline is coming so quickly! And Mr. Speedy and I still have a bit of wiggle room before we hit the Home Renovation Tax Credit's $10,000 spending limit (for a maximum credit of $1,350 - the minimum to claim is $1,000). While our knob and tube rewiring, and our various painting projects, have certainly made the credit worth our while, I've been daydreaming a few more projects that we can squeeze in before Feb. 1.
Mainly, my plan consists of a bathroom facelift. New paint, new flooring and a new light fixture are all qualifying projects!
While I love my clawfoot tub, and have learned to live with the bathroom's teeny-tiny size, I still haven't accepted the baby blue walls, faded country-style vinyl tile flooring and the worn medicine cabinet.
A coat of soft (and skin-tone flattering) grey paint, some sleek silver hardware and lighting and some fresh flooring in the form of modern peel-and-stick vinyl tiles (it's hard to believe they're not ceramic!) will help create a more relaxing environment and help bring it more in line with my personal style. A few floating shelves will cap off the design with a little bit of extra open storage, too.

Our front porch was crumbling so we decided to take advantage of the HRTC. Also found out that window coverings (as they help with heat/cold loss) applied so we got some new ones. Its not a huge amount of credit but it does work well with the 1% per year you should put back into your home to keep its value.
