No need to buy planters. It is so easy to make them from recycled or found objects like old coffee cans, scrap wooden boxes, pails and buckets of all kinds. With a little paint, stenciling or other creative ideas you can add some flair without spending so much money or bringing more plastic junk into your garden.

...except that most found object planters are hideous, and you can't hide the basic design flaws (including tendencies to crack)by repainting them. Though I wouldn't spend hundreds of dollars on a single planter, it's hard to feel guilty about buying them because they can be used year after year after year.
