LUCAS OLENIUK - A group of about 900 longboarders descended on Toronto City Hall on Saturday afternoon in a planned event called a board meeting.  Many of the participants wore black ties and white shirts in keeping with the theme.  The group met at David A. Balfour Park in order to take advantage of the incline of the hill at Yonge and St. Clair before making their way downtown.

Five years and much derision later, Holmes enters the more world of Toronto galleries with his first-ever show in a conventional space.

JIM WILKES - IT'S NOT A TUMOUR, REALLY!   Rebecca MacTavish looks askance at a Galeuse d'Eysines, a French heirloom pumpkin grown at her folks' Hutchinson Farm in rural Burlington. Its salmon-pink skin is covered with bumps which resemble peanut shells. Its name means 'embroidered with warts'.

RICHARD LAUTENS - 18-month old Liam Gibson is at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. In 1987, his father, Ross Gibson was diagnosed with cancer when he was 11. Twenty three years later, Liam, has been diagnosed with a very rare, very deadly form of the disease. The same doctors who treated his father are now treating him. Liam goes to sleep clutching the same "lucky pillowcase" that his father used for comfort in 1987.

KEITH BEATY - Toronto's first Street Art Festival at Toronto Pecaut Square (Metro Hall).  Artist Joseph Muscat put a large canvas on the ground and invited passerby to "paint" the canvas by walking on it in paint-soaked shoes. (He provided the shoes). Here nine-year-old Alice Irving makes an artistic statement.

RICK MADONIK -  Aabid Patel, of Cambridge, concentrates as he goes on to win the Amateur contest by consuming 2.5 pounds of poutine. Two contests for competitive eating, one for amateurs and one for professionals, took place outside Rogers Centre. The contest, hosted by Major League Eating, involved a poutine eating contest with Smoke Poutinerie supplying the fries and curd and gravy dishes for the competition.

RICK MADONIK - A group moves along Courtney Park Blvd toward Mississauga Secondary School. About 50 people gathered for a candlelight march and vigil for Akash Wadhwa, a Mississauga teen alleged in a murder-suicide. The group gathered on the overpass of Mavis Road, over the 401, lit candles and walked to Mississauga Secondary School.

CARLOS OSORIO - Emily McInnes (former organizer of the Contact photography festival in Toronto) came up with the idea of making framed art works an option for travel rewards and took it to Aeroplan earlier this year. She figured people who travel likely also like art but may not have the time to visit galleries. Also good exposure for emerging artists too. She has already plumbed this market with her online gallery. Aeroplan loved it and launched it last month.
