RANDY RISLING - George "Knia" Singh, a law student and mentor to youth in at-risk areas of the city, filed a freedom of information request for access to Toronto police contact cards that involve him. The cards were filled with inaccuracies and Singh questions the value of the data. 

 

KEITH BEATY - The Gardiner Museum opens "Mo No Ma," with a quirky show of sculpture by Toronto's An Te Liu. Liu's work consists largely of repurposed packaging materials which he reconfigures in abstract forms eerily reminiscent of such Modernist masters as Henry Moore.

 

LUCAS OLENIUK - Joan Howard, photographed at Kempton Howard Park.  The park was named after her murdered son Kempton, a youth leader who was shot in the apartment building beside the park.

BERNARD WEIL - Abigail Johnson, Minister at Beach United Church, is framed by large window on the south side. Beach United Church, built in 1914, has undergone a spectacular 3-year reno, taken out all its pews so chairs can be used in any configuration, revamped the kitchen to make it 3-times bigger (it's part of a drop-in lunch program), put in automatic solar blinds, installed the largest rooftop solar system of any church in GTA and left its old chimney standing because it has endangered chimney swifts.

 

DAVID COOPER - Houda Rafle, 28, is battling advanced cancer after a Trillium radiologist missed seeing a tumour near her heart on a CT scan. It has now spread to her lungs.

 

STEVE RUSSELL - Laura Timms looks to identify insects. A massive effort by the ROM was underway at the Rouge Park Conservation Centre to catalogue all plant, insect, fish and animal species.

The Blue Jays Baseball Academy, in collaboration with Blue Jays Hall of Famer Roberto Alomar hosted the inaugural Tournament 12, a national baseball showcase tournament at Rogers Centre.
